Course Description

Dear ECCE Provider,

As a childcare provider contracted to deliver the ECCE Scheme it is required that all pre-school leaders hold a minimum of a nationally accredited major award] at Level 5 in early childhood care and education or equivalent by August 2012. If you are not currently meeting that requirement you may be interested in participating in a pilot of an assessment of learning initiative developed by the Early Years Policy Unit and delivered through the VEC, which would offer an alternative pathway to allow you or your staff member to start building up component awards leading to a Level 5 major award. This pilot allows participants to achieve a NFQ Level 5 component award in Child Development which is one of the mandatory component awards for the Level 5 major award in ECCE.

Under this alternative pathway the proposed assessment of learning system would require completion of all assessments associated with the Child Development component award without having to attend class. If you’re interested in taking part in this alternative pathway you must attend an Induction Seminar at 6.30pm on Wednesday 8th February at Whitehall College, Swords Road, Dublin 9. You must also attend two additional workshops that will be held on Wednesday 14th March and Wednesday 18th April. The total cost for the Child Development Module is €100, however, Fingal County Childcare Committee will subsidise a maximum of 50% (€50) for 20 participants working in childcare in the Fingal Area with priority being given to room leaders. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

This level of support both financial and academic will not be offered again in 2012. The proposed pilot initiative reduces the financial cost for providers and also offers learners informal support from tutors and peers through support clusters with assignments and exam preparation.

To avail of the FCCC subsidy (€50 towards fee) for this Assessment of learning leading to Level 5 minor award in Child Development you will need to apply to the FCCC via  post or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible.
